Does Rain Beauty provide the necessary equipment for teaching?
Our makeup workshops are spacious, mirrored environments designed to enable students to work at maximum efficiency. Full spectrum lighting is necessary for color matching skin tones and product selection. Workshops are equipped with all the necessary makeup tools, a full wardrobe for photo shoots, and hairstyling model and other styling accessories for each student. Audio-visual equipment permits teachers to view and critique students' work, as well as show a wide variety of makeup on print or film. Internet access allows students to watch the current fashion shows or to study the designer's collections in detail.
What's the difference between becoming a makeup artist and becoming a cosmetologist?
Many people are either not sure or are mistaken when it comes to the differences between a beauty makeup schools vs. a beauty cosmetology school. Here is the difference: A beauty / cosmetology school is where you study hair in order to become a hair stylist. Beauty makeup school is where you study makeup, cosmetics and face.
Duration: Makeup school program can be as short as 2 days a cosmetology (hair) school is normally is over a year.
Price: Makeup school can be as low as $849 but hair school could be $15,000 or more simply because they are two different types of education.

What jobs are available in the makeup industry?
The makeup industry provides endless possibility of ways to make a living. Photographers, Modeling Agencies, and models hire makeup artist for magazine shoots, runway shows, special events and more. As well as, Bridal parties, bachelorettes parties, Bar Mitzvah and retail companies like MAC, Sephora, and department stores. Working with actors and celebrities also keep makeup artist busy for film, television and stage.
What is a makeup artistry certification?
That means no licensing is required for makeup arts by law. All makeup school offer certificate classes and there is no licensing or state requirements for makeup. But for hair, nail and skin schools there is a licensing and state requirement.
What can you do after the certification?
You can work for yourself as a freelance contractor makeup artist, or work for an agency or a company such as MAC cosmetics, you can open your own cosmetic shop or sale your own cosmetic line online. Become runway, fashion editorial, media or bridal makeup artist. These are just some of the possibilities to choose from.
What kind of money can a makeup artist make?
The quality of your work and your commitment to excellence are two deciding factors; next is which industry you choose. The Cosmetic retail industry is the entry level for many makeup artists. It averages the lowest income at $12 - $26 per hour with or without sales commission. Bridal makeup can be $75 - $1000 depending on the size of the bridal party. Production work is paid by “day rate” which averages between $250 - $1500 per day for Print, Video, and Runway work and for Film between $400 - $850 per day, sometimes with a lot of overtime (time and ½ or double time).
Is a portfolio included in any of your classes?
In order to obtain industry bookings, you must have a professional portfolio. A portfolio shows the quality and range of your work. You will need to show it during an interview with an agency, potential client, or other decision maker. During attendance at Rain Beauty, Fashion & Production students participate in many photo sessions. Our professional staff photographer will help you build your portfolio with a variety of media looks. All students receive a CD of their work
